Big Louie's favorite AZ Fly Pattern's
Two great fly’s for you serious trout fisherman here in AZ. You'll immediately notice an increase catch rate of all species of trout with either the AZ Peacock Lady (upper left) or the Sunrise Special (upper right). They can be fished wet, dry, in stillwaters and in moving waters. You float tubers will love them. You can fish them in almost all scenarios here in AZ. They work great as a trailer behind a larger streamer pattern or fished as a lead fly with a smaller trailer about 18” behind it. Both patterns contain the red and peacock colors AZ stillwater trout love so much. They are extremely versatile nymph/wet fly patterns that can be tied with or without a beadhead. Use beadheads and red tails for best results. Kent Frie (928-536-4432) of Frei's Flies in Snowflake, AZ, does all my custom fly tying. Kent has tied them for me with red beadheads, red beaded bodies and some even with 3/8" prop blades. I like casting the prop bladed ones using my spin rods or trolling them behind a boat. On the lower left is a picture of what Kent calls the Pregnant AZ Peacock Lady. The pattern on the lower right is a Sunrise Special made of Semi Seal. Give them a try, they are productive year-round in Arizona for trout in the White Mountains or Mogollon Rim lakes. Don't catch them all and please practice Catch & Release.
